DownloadTempted {a, like, totally rad ’80s Swan Queen fanmix}

tracklist: 01. Tempted - Squeeze // 02. You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) - Dead or Alive // 03. Need You Tonight - INXS // 04. Rooms on Fire - Stevie Nicks // 05. Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah) - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts // 06. You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC // 07. I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) - Hall & Oates // 08. What’s Love Got to Do With It - Tina Turner // 09. Alone - Heart // 10. Heartbreaker - Pat Benatar // 11. When Doves Cry - Prince // 12. Open Your Heart - Madonna // 13.  Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer // 14. Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler

A few quick things: I put this together for the ’80s fanmix challenge suggested by Bri & Alex on their OUaT podcast Other Side of the Mirror (which you should be listening to if you’re not already, because it’s funny and insightful and they’ve got some interesting theories about the show). If this one does well, I’ve got ideas for other ships/characters—seriously, the tracklist was about 3 times this size when I started. I think “Heartbreaker” was technically released in 1979, but it was late ‘79 so… close ‘nuff. And for now I’m using RapidShare, but if anyone could recommend a (free) file sharing site that doesn’t dump inactive files after a certain period of time, that would be swell. There’s a page for some of my past fanmixes on my blog, but I think they probably all lead to broken links by now. Halp!

01 // “Clair de Lune” - composed by Claude Debussy

POV: Mine, I suppose. To me, it just suits them. It’s gentle and beautiful and classic. I could see them listening to something like it while sipping wine as they cuddled up in front of a cozy fire in their little cabin and watched the sun set… oh gods, here come the ugly creys.

-

02 // “Us” - Regina Spektor They’ll name a city after us/And later say it’s all our fault/Then they’ll give us a talking to/Then they’ll give us a talking to/’Cause they’ve got years of experience

POV: Laura. This reminds me of the scene in “A Measure of Salvation” [thanks again to kathubs and onlyformary for helping me figure out the right episode!] when they discuss wiping out the Cylons with the mystery virus, and Bill says posterity doesn’t look too kindly on genocide. Laura: “You’re making an assumption that posterity will define this as genocide. If they do, at least there’ll be someone alive to hate us for it.” It could also just be about having the fate of the human race on their shoulders in general; because they were really the only ones who could understand each other that way.

-

03 // “If I Loved You” - Bernadette Peters Longing to tell you but afraid and shy/I’d let my golden chances pass me by/Soon you’d leave me/Off you would go in the mist of day/Never, never to know how I loved you/If I loved you

POV: Laura, although I suppose it could be both. I almost used the duet version from Carousel, but this version fits better with the rest of the mix. Anyway. It sounds like what she/they were feeling when they first started to fall for each other but wouldn’t dare admit it.

-

04 // “Leather and Lace” - Stevie Nicks & Don Henley You in the moonlight/With your sleepy eyes/Could you ever love a man like me?/And you were right/When I walked into your house/I knew I’d never want to leave

POV: Both. Pretty self-explanatory. Space mommy and space daddy are totally into each other, hee! Also, the “you in the moonlight/with your sleepy eyes” line reminds me of their scene in Bill’s rack in “Taking a Break from All Your Worries”…

-

05 // “She’s Got a Way with Me” - Billy Currington Whatever it is/I’ll always be under her spell/She’ll always be all I’ll ever need/I could search this whole world/I know I’d never find/Someone perfect as her for me

POV: Bill. When he finally lets himself realize he’s in love with her.

-

06 // “Make You Feel My Love” - Adele I know you haven’t made your mind up yet/But I would never do you wrong/I’ve known it from the moment that we met/No doubt in my mind where you belong

POV: Well, I picked the Adele version because it fits Laura (and because Adele is fucking awesome), but I could see this being either one of them. In fact, now I’m wishing I’d included the Garth Brooks version for Bill. Too late for that, but squeeze it in there if you have it. Anyway, this is them still dancing around the issue of being crazy stupid in love with each other. Like so:

(OMG, will you two just do it already.)

-

07 // “Easy Silence” - Dixie Chicks Children lose their youth too soon/Watching war made us immune/And I’ve got all the world to lose/But I just want to hold on to the/Easy silence that you make for me/It’s okay when there’s nothing more to say to me/And the peaceful quiet you create for me/And the way you keep the world at bay for me

POV: Laura. This would be, I guess, sometime after “Taking a Break from All Your Worries” or whenever she started hanging out in his quarters/rack like it was NBD. Around the time they’d really gotten comfortable with each other & she discovered the cancer was back.

-

08 // “Shameless” - Garth Brooks You know now I’m not a man who’s ever been/Insecure about the world I been livin’ in/I don’t break easy, I have my pride/But if you need to be satisfied/I’m shameless/Well honey I don’t have a prayer/Every time I see you standing there/I go down upon my knees

POV: Bill. All Bill. This is when he realized he is one whipped motherfrakker and just started going along with whatever the hell she wanted.

-

09 // “Crystal” - Stevie Nicks Do you always trust your first initial feeling/Special knowledge holds truth, bears believing/I turned around/And the water was closing all around/Like a glove/Like the love that had finally, finally found me

POV: Laura. Totally out of order, but it reminds me of “Home,” when Bill finds her on Kobol. (OMG, I accidentally typed “when Bill fingers” the first time. Wow, that just gave this a whole new meaning.) All the parts about water and mountains fit the setting too. And I would not be at all surprised if Stevie Nicks had been to Kobol herself, tbh.

-

10 // “Darling Pretty” - Mark Knopfler Heal me with a smile, darlin’ pretty/Heal me with a smile and a heart of gold/Carry me a while, darlin’ pretty/Heal my aching heart and soul

POV: Bill. Circa early season 4ish, when he knows the cancer’s back and they’re kind of just wearing down and totally relying on each other.

-

11 // “The Lady in Red” - Chris de Burgh I’ve never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight/I’ve never seen you shine so bright/You were amazing/I’ve never seen so many people want to be there by your side/And when you turned to me and smiled/It took my breath away/I have never had such a feeling/Such a feeling of complete and utter love as I do tonight

POV: Bill, obviously. “Unfinished Business,” obviously. I mean, can we just…

It’s like it was written about her. By him. I can’t even. asdgkas;lfkjglkj

-

12 // “Send in the Clowns” - Barbra Streisand Isn’t it rich/Are we a pair/Me here at last on the ground/You in mid-air

POV: Laura. This is when she’s been on New Caprica for a while and everyone’s disillusioned because it’s so awful. And she misses Bill, but he’s up on Galactica and she’s stuck in the snake pit and it’s hell and she misses him and the Cylons are the clowns—or no, I guess she and Bill would be, because everything they went through seems so futile and she’s lost hope and he’s not there even though they’re completely in love by this point; but he’s got his duties and she’s got hers and there’s not much they can do about it because they’re both stubborn and caught up in trying to survive and… and… *sobs*

-

13 // “Chasing Cars” - Grey’s Anatomy cast If I lay here/If I just lay here/Would you lie with me/And just forget the world?

POV: Both. Or Laura. It reminds me of all the little moments when they don’t want to get out of bed: the “pep talk” over the phone in “Crossroads,” her taking the phone from him and hanging it up in “A Disquiet Follows My Soul,” etc.

-

14 // “The Book of Love” - Peter Gabriel But I/I love it when you read to me/And you/You can read me anything

POV: Both. Well… some of the lyrics sound more like Laura, but other parts of it—and Peter Gabriel’s voice—make me think of Bill. Anyway, this is so him reading to her in “The Ties That Bind.” And when he sings to her in “Unfinished Business” even though she totally laughed her ass off.

-

15 // “When You Love Someone” - Bryan Adams When you love someone/You’ll do anything/You’ll do all the crazy things that you can’t explain/You’ll shoot the moon/Put out the sun/When you love someone

POV: Both. This is when they’re not even trying to deny they’re in love and can’t live without each other anymore—specifically, when he stays behind in the Raptor and waits for her in “Sine Qua Non” (right?) and when she does the “I’m coming for all of you!” speech in “Blood on the Scales.”

-

16 // “Open Your Eyes” - Snow Patrol Every minute from this minute now/We can do what we like anywhere/I want so much to open your eyes/’Cause I need you to look into mine

(POV: Bill. When the cancer’s really starting to take hold of Laura, and he’s in denial that he’s going to lose her.)

-

17 // “Dimming of the Day” - Richard & Linda Thompson What days have come to keep us far apart/A broken promise or a broken heart/Now all the bonnie birds have wheeled away/I need you at the dimming of the day

POV: Both. The line(s) “This old house is falling/Down around my ears/I’m drowning in a river of my tears” reminds me of the conversation in “Islanded in a Stream of Stars” when Galactica is falling apart and Laura says it must be hard for Bill to lose both his women at once. And the line about the “bonnie birds” reminds me of their last ride together in the Raptor. (Care to guess how many times I cried making this fanmix?)

-

18 // “Answer” - Sarah McLachlan Cast me gently/Into morning/For the night has been unkind/Take me to a/Place so holy/That I can wash this from my mind/The memory of choosing not to fight

POV: Laura. Her death in song form. Of course it would be Sarah McLachlan, because she is all about tickling the ivories while blood drips from her lovely fingertips from the still-beating heart she just ripped out of your frakking chest.

-

19 //  “Years” - Randy Owen Even now sometimes/You feel so near/And I still see your face/Like it was yesterday/It’s strange how the days turned into years

POV: Bill. His thoughts in the years after Laura’s death. As if this song didn’t already kill me enough.

-

20 // “Fields of Gold” - Sting You’ll remember me when the west wind moves/Upon the fields of barley/You can tell the sun in his jealous sky/When we walked in fields of gold

POV: Both. Or some sort of omniscient third-party observing them. Actually, if I were doing just a regular BSG fanmix, I’d still include this song because it reminds me of them all going their separate ways in “Daybreak,” with that lush scenery as a backdrop. But this line especially reminds me of Laura & Bill: “In his arms she fell as her hair came down/Among the fields of gold”…

-

21 // “Your Song” [Instrumental] - Craig Armstrong

POV: Either one. Me. Whatever. I was trying to add some symmetry, since the fanmix started out with an instrumental piece, and I was going to end it with one too. Then I decided to put the next one last and screwed that idea up. But I love this song and Moulin Rouge—and it fits with the whole theme of love, loss and untimely deaths—so I kept it.

-

22 // “I’ve Loved You Before” - Melissa Etheridge Did I hold you in my arms/As you were taking your last breath/Did I shout to all the gods/That I would love you beyond death/Or more/I swear I’ve loved you before

POV: Both. It’s them when they meet up in their next life/lives. Because all this has happened before, and all of it will happen again. This has always been my go-to song for Xena and Gabrielle (seriously, Melissa Etheridge, do not even deny you wrote it about them, you ginormous fangirl you), but I don’t think they’d mind me using it for Bill and Laura. I kind of like to think that all my OTPs are just Xena & Gabrielle reincarnated over and over again, anyway. But I guess, in this case, it would be Bill & Laura who came first… so, actually, Xena & Gabrielle are Bill & Laura in another life. Which means all my OTPs are really Bill & Laura. And I don’t even care if you think I’m a crazy person after reading this, because my life was just made by that revelation. *happy sigh*

Reblogging for the people who wanted the songs. The links should work now. :) Sorry, when I first uploaded it, I didn’t realize RapidShare removed files after a certain length of time with no hits. (Is there a fileshare site that doesn’t do that? Anyone know?)

It’s finally finished. *weeps with joy* Included a few of my thoughts on each song. Also, I’ve seen a couple of these songs on other Regina mixes, but I already had them picked out and couldn’t bear to change them. I used different versions from the ones I’ve seen anyway, so it’s all good.

Download: Pound of Flesh - A Regina/Evil Queen Fanmix

1. “Good ‘n’ Evil” - Linda Eder {The title says it all.} Evil is everywhere/Good doesn’t have a prayer/Good is commendable/Evil’s dependable/Evil is viable/Good’s unreliable/Good may be thankable/Evil is bankable
2. “Mama Who Bore Me” - Lea Michele {Young Regina, to her mother.} Mama who bore me/Mama who gave me/No way to handle things/Who made me so sad
3. “Wild Horses” - Natasha Bedingfield {Circa “The Stable Boy.”} I see the girl I wanna be/Riding bareback, care free along the shore/If only that someone was me/Jumping head first, headlong without a thought/To act and damn the consequence/How I wish it could be that easy/But fear surrounds me like a fence/I wanna break free
4. “Flesh for Bones” - Terra Naomi {Post-Daniel’s death.} I carry with me on my way/All the ghosts of all the love that I let slip away/The heavy weight of promises made/That if I could exonerate, I might just lift off today
5. “One Day I’ll Fly Away” (remix) - Nicole Kidman {Regina during her marriage to King Leopold.} One day I’ll fly away/Leave all this to yesterday/Why live life from dream to dream/And dread the day when dreaming ends
6. “Gold Dust Woman” - Fleetwood Mac {Hints of the Evil Queen beginning to emerge.} Well, did she make you cry/Make you break down/Shatter your illusions of love/And is it over now/Do you know how/To pick up the pieces and go home
7. “Paint it Black” - Siobhan Magnus {Full-on Evil Queen in all her glorious misery.} I look inside myself and see my heart is black/I see my red door and must have it painted black/Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts/It’s not easy facing up when your whole world is black
8. “Crazy on You” - Heart {I don’t know, it’s just a good song and sounds like her. That bitch cray cray.} Let me go crazy on ya/Crazy on you/Let me go crazy, crazy on you
9. “Cry” - Faith Hill {Sums up Regina Mills pretty well, especially in regards to Mary Margaret.} If your love could be caged/Honey, I would hold the key/And conceal it underneath the pile of lies you handed me/And you’d hunt those lies - they’d be all you’d ever find/That’d be all you’d have to know for me to be fine
10. “Sorcerer” - Stevie Nicks {Evil Queen.} I’m tired/I’m thirsty/I’m wild eyed/In my misery, yeah, yeah/Timeless in your finery, hey, hey/It’s a high price for your luxury, yeah, yeah
11. “Secret Garden” - Bruce Springsteen {Reminds me of Regina’s relationship with Graham, but it has a Swan Queen vibe as well.} She’ll let you in her car/To go drivin’ ‘round/She’ll let you into the parts of herself/That’ll bring you down/She’ll let you in her heart/If you’ve got a hammer and a vise/But into her secret garden, don’t think twice
12. “In Two (The Lament)” - Jennifer Knapp {She could totally break a man in two.} Still you’re suffering, my love/Oh, who’s to blame?/You might be tired/But I’m not through fanning the flame
13. “Fools in Love” - Inara George {Regina’s views on love, thanks to fucking Cora. And “this fool’s in love again” works for Swan Queen, but also could be about her love for Henry.} Fools in love, they think they’re heroes/’Cause they get to feel no pain/I say fools in love are zeroes/I should know, I should know/Because this fool’s in love again
14. “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want” - She & Him {She just wants to win for once.} Haven’t had a dream in a long time/See, the life I’ve had/Could make a good man turn bad
15. “Shake It Out” - Glee Cast {This has Regina written all over it.} And I’ve been a fool and I’ve been blind/I can never leave the past behind/I can see no way, I can see no way/I’m always dragging that horse around
16. “Vertigo” - Sarah Slean {Another one that just suits her, not necessarily because of the lyrics but definitely the sound.} Terrible calm, terrible cold/This dream I have, it’s gold
17. “Stairway to Heaven” - Led Zeppelin {Actually, this reminds me a lot of Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin too. The first verse gives me major Regina feels, though. They can split the rest. Ha.} There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold/And she’s buying the stairway to heaven/When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed/With a word she can get what she came for/Ooh, and she’s buying the stairway to heaven

Including my thoughts on the songs because I can. But feel free to interpret them as you see fit. :) Also, I’m not crazy about how the cover art turned out, but I could not get it to do what I wanted it to do for the life of me. There was about to be bloodshed, so I decided to leave it as is. Pretend it doesn’t suck.

DOWNLOAD: Ballad of a Dove - A Mary Margaret/Snow White Fanmix (zip)

1. “Have You Ever” - Brandi Carlile {Little!Snow, adult!Snow and/or Mary Margaret in general.} Have you ever been out walking in the snow/Tried to get back where you were before/You always end up not knowing where to go/If you’ve ever been out walking in the snow

2. “Beautiful Child” - Fleetwood Mac {Well, Snow was a beautiful child. But I see certain versus fitting the Snow/Regina relationship and some fitting MM/David. The “beautiful child” could also be baby Emma.} I’m not a child anymore/I’m tall enough to reach the stars/I’m old enough to love you from afar/Too trusting, yes/But then women usually are

3. “Don’t Speak” - No Doubt {Teenaged or young adult Snow remembering the friendship that was lost between herself & Regina. Because I do think it would affect her deeply. She lost her own mother & adored Regina so much in the beginning.} Our memories/Well, they can be inviting/But some are altogether mighty frightening/As we die, both you and I/With my head in my hands/I sit and cry

4. “If I Die Young” - The Band Perry {Snow contemplating death, should Regina have her way. It fits so perfectly, right down to the green ring on her little cold finger. ‘So put on your best, boys’ could also apply to the dwarfs.} If I die young, bury me in satin/Lay me down on a bed of roses/Sink me in the river at dawn/Send me away with the words of a love song

5. “Landslide” - Dixie Chicks {Snow White, especially after her father’s death & while she’s hiding out from the Evil Queen.} Oh, mirror in the sky/What is love/Can the child within my heart rise above/Can I sail through the changing ocean tides/Can I handle the seasons of my life

7. “What I Did for Love” - Lea Michele {Snowing, esp. when she eats the apple to protect him.} Kiss today goodbye/The sweetness and the sorrow/Wish me luck/The same to you/But I can’t regret/What I did for love/What I did for love

8. “In My Arms” - Plumb {Snow’s feelings about baby Emma. And that’s all I can say, because GROSS SOBBING.} Castles, they might crumble/Dreams may not come true/But you are never all alone/’Cause I will always/Always love you

9. “Somewhere Out There” - Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram {Snow before the curse makes her forget Emma -insert more disgusting sobs-, but also MM when she’s sensing her old life.} Somewhere out there/If love can see us through/Then we’ll be together/Somewhere out there/Out where dreams come true

10. “Sweet Disposition” - The Temper Trap {Mary Margaret & hints of Snowing.} A moment of love/A dream/A laugh/A kiss/A cry/Our rights/Our wrongs/A moment of love

11. “Wildwood Flower” - Reese Witherspoon {I don’t know, the imagery in this just reminds me of Ginnifer/Snow/MM. With the dark hair, red roses and paleness and the references to flowery, pretty things. Plus, I just like including it since Ginnifer was in Walk the Line. Humor me.} Oh, I’ll twine with my mingles/And waving black hair/With the roses so red/And the lilies so fair

12. “I’ll Be” - Reba McEntire {Mary Margaret’s feelings about Emma as they start to bond & her maternal instincts begin to surface. AKA When she kicks Jefferson’s crazy ass out the window.} When you can’t find your way/I’ll find my way to you/When troubles come around/I will come to you

13. “Sentimental Heart” - She & Him {It just suits MM, but it’s a good song for her and David, too.} Old habits die hard/When you got/When you got a sentimental heart/Piece of the puzzle/You’re my missing part/Oh, what can you do with a sentimental heart

14. “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” - Kristin Chenoweth & Sean Hayes {Mary Margaret during all the David drama.} What do you get when you fall in love/You only get lies and pain and sorrow/So for at least until tomorrow/I’ll never fall in love again/I’ll never fall in love again

15. “Where is Your Heart” - Kelly Clarkson {It’s kind of a love song, I guess, but I see it more as MM trying to understand why Regina hates her so much.} Where is your heart/’Cause I don’t really feel you/Where is your heart/What I really want is to believe you/Is it so hard to give me what I need/I want your heart to bleed/That’s all I’m asking for

16. “Fireflies” - Faith Hill {No explanation necessary. It’s like it was written about her.} Before you met me I was a fairy princess/I caught frogs and called them prince/And made myself a queen/Before you knew me I traveled ‘round the world/I slept in castles and fell in love/Because I was taught to dream

Should I continue with these fanmixes? The Roslin/Adama one didn’t get much traffic. I’m not trying to be sulky—these just take a lot of time and if there’s not much interest in them, I’d rather move on to something else. That said, I’ve already got a second Swan Queen fanmix in the works, so please let me know if you’d like me to post it.

My Brenda.Sharon fanmix went over pretty well, so I decided to go ahead and do one for Roslin/Adama. This is the one I’d initially been planning since I finished my last BSG rewatch a couple months ago. As you can see, I gave myself way too much leeway and ended up with a Galactica-sized list of songs. (I regret nothing!) I split the download into two separate parts because I wasn’t sure if a single file would be too large. Please let me know if there’s a problem with the links/files. Also, this time I’m adding a little note about why I chose each song & whose point of view I think it’s from. My own personal head canons, if you will. Some are a bit out of order, but… oh well. Feel free to add your input or correct me if I get the wrong episode. And I apologize in advance for how massive this post is going to be. Enjoy, and Happy Mother’s Day! :)

Okay, guys, I’ve been toying with the idea of putting together some fanmixes for a while now. Originally I planned to start with Roslin/Adama, but I’ve been having so many Brenda/Sharon feels lately that this ended up happening. It’s my first attempt at a fanmix, so it might be utter crap—I don’t know. I hope not, because it took fucking forever to put it together. I thought I was going to die. Anyway, the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, but I will say that I tried to put the songs in order so they kind of fit the progression of the ladies’ relationship. From driving each other crazy but totally having the hots for each other, to the angst of not really being able to express those feelings for all sorts of reasons (go away, Fritzi), to the part that’s obviously coming up in the last 6 episodes where they finally admit how they feel about each other. Shut up, it will happen. Let me know if you like it (or if there’s any problems with the link, etc). I’ll probably make some more if this one’s a success.
